Sing it out loud.

I am Charonne Débora Placathose, born in 1994 in Pamplemousses in Mauritius, a place where the sea, the sun, and many cultures meet.

For my 25th birthday, I received a gift that would change my life; the chance to come to Switzerland and apply to study for the career I had always dreamed of. In March 2020, I arrived in St. Gallen, staying at a friend’s place just as the COVID-19 pandemic struck and the world went into lockdown. With flights cancelled, there was no way back to Mauritius.

I stayed, moving a few months later to Payerne with other friends, and finally settling in Luzern in September 2020. It was there that I began my bachelor’s degree in Kunst und Vermittlung at the Hochschule Luzern, which I completed in 2023.

These places, Mauritius, St. Gallen, Payerne, and Luzern, are more than locations on a map. They are chapters in the ongoing answer to the question “Where are you from?” A question that continues to guide my journey, my art, and my search for meaning.

“Where are you from?”

I come from a peaceful, well-framed family, a safe childhood surrounded by love.
Yet inside, my mind was constantly moving, filled with big questions about life. Sensitivity and fear sometimes led me to unsettling places, shaping the way my body and spirit grew.

I spent hours in my head, but rarely let my thoughts escape my mouth. I was always searching for a meaning that could explain everything. A Truth!

I come from a place that speaks of the endless search to understand the Spirit and the emotions that move us.
From discovering a talent for singing, to losing it out of fear, and finally, to understanding what singing truly is.

I once sang to please those around me. Now, I sing because I know the purpose behind the song.

Je ne vous entend pas

I don’t hear you anymore

I hear only myself

Don’t think that you see me because you don’t

I am gonna rip my breast out so that

you can see clearly who I am inside

Don’t look at me! Watch me!

Do you see me now? I want to be here!

Je n’entend que moi

Je veux être là

Est-ce que tu me vois

Tu ne me verras pas

Ne me regarde pas

Je ne vous entend pas

Listen up!
